On Friday the 1st of April I loaded up my car with my camera kit and the entire family and began the 3hr drive from Adelaide to Peterborough, South Australia. I knew this wedding was going to be special. Not only were we on our way to some of the most beautiful landscapes S.A. has to offer, but the couple I'd be photographing are two of the most kind and welcoming people I have ever met. To have been asked to share in their day and photograph this very special occasion was truly an honour.
From the first time I met Vanessa and Bruce they were both so warm, laid-back and kind. They told me that they'd be having their ceremony in the 'middle of nowhere'. Being from the country myself, I was immediately excited by the prospect of wide open spaces, clear skies and fresh country air! One week before the wedding I travelled up to Peterborough to meet with Vanessa and Bruce so that they could show me around. We drove out to the ceremony location and they explained how they imagined having it all set up. On one side was native bushland, and the other, wide open space for as far as the eye could see. As soon as we arrived, I could immediately see why they chose this particular spot for their ceremony.
We chatted about how it would be set up on the day and then drove to a few other special spots they'd picked out for their photos, before driving back to their home and chatting some more. Of course, this was after Bruce had had to change the tyre on my car after I got a flatty on the dirt road! (thanks again Bruce).
I arrived in Peterborough (family in tow) again, one week later. We checked into our motel room and soon after got a call from Vanessa asking if we'd like to join them down at the footy club on the eve of their wedding day (because that's the sort of awesome people these guys are!). We humbly declined (sorry again guys, we were all a little pooped) and put the kids to bed.
The day of Bruce and Vanessa's wedding had arrived and I couldn't have been more excited. I drove out to Black Rock (no flat tyres this time) where I met with Vanessa, her bridesmaids and her hair and makeup artist. There was much laughter, bridesmaid shenanigans and of course, a little bit of nerves as the girls got themselves ready for the day.
Once the girls were ready to go, I drove ahead to the ceremony with makeup artist and friend, Natasha. As we got a little closer, we were surprised to see two kangaroos jumping alongside us, and then, as Kangaroos seem to do, jumping in front of us! I guess we really were in the outback!
I got to the ceremony and saw a somewhat nervous Bruce waiting for his soon-to-be Bride. I snapped a couple of shots, asked how he was doing and then stepped back to await Vanessa's arrival.
The ceremony couldn't have been more beautiful. Laughs, tears and even an audience of horses in the paddock behind had come to witness the event. Just beautiful.
The ceremony finished up and we headed out to get a few shots. We were more than spoilt for beautiful locations! Not wanting to take up too much time, we grabbed a few more photos and then headed back to town to join the rest of the guests at the reception at the local footy club.
The club was set up with white and purple table settings and an abundance of matching balloons that later on proved very popular with the kiddies at this gorgeous family friendly wedding.
The bride and groom were introduced, along with the bridal party, speeches were made, food was eaten, laughs were had and memories were made!
Congratulations Bruce and Vanessa. You deserve every single bit of happiness in your journey together as husband and wife!
Welcome all. Here you can keep up to date with all my latest shoots, events and general chit chats... Enjoy.
