Three months ago, Belinda and Bruce welcomed into the world their new baby girl, Zoe. I jumped in the car and headed on up to the beautiful Adelaide Hills for a morning photo shoot out in the gorgeous bushland of Cleland National Park. It was a little chilly but all were well rugged up and ready for adventures. The bushland was just beautiful. The tall moss covered trees, the way the sunlight found its was through the tops of the branches, everything, just beautiful. And even when Zoe decided it was time for a feed, Belinda didn't hesitate to comfort her baby whilst still amongst the gorgeous surrounds.
We enjoyed the crisp morning air for a little longer before heading back to Belinda and Bruce's home where we enjoyed a nice cuppa tea to warm ourselves up before snapping a few more captures of this humble little family.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason, this shoot just seemed a little extra special... Perhaps it was the beautiful location, or maybe it was the complete and utter happiness and fulfilment that just emanated from this one little family. My presence during the shoot didn't even seem to have an impact on how this family naturally interacted with each other. Those genuine exchanges of love between husband and wife and the soothing song and humming from a Daddy to his new baby daughter, created a calming vibe that will be hard to forget.
Again, thank you Belinda and Bruce for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to capture this precious time your lives.
It doesn't seem to matter how many newborn shoots I do, I still feel so humbled to be invited into the lives and homes of each of these families...
Yesterday I was invited out to a home to photograph two week old baby Ivy. From the minute Mum, Kelly, answered the door, I new this was going to be one of those shoots where we just chat, have some tea and take some shots. Kelly introduced me to the rest of the family, Dad, Trav and big brother, Charlie. Charlie helped me to get set up and then we got snapping. Outside it was rainy and cold but in the warmth of the bedroom and snuggled up on the bed, Charlie showed his love and curiosity for his new baby sister. With gentle head buts, open mouth kisses and curious pokes to Ivy's nose, it was clear that Charlie was truly smitten by the new addition to the family.
The entire shoot was so relaxed and Mum Kelly seemed to just emanate this beautiful honest and raw radiance that is motherhood. While Kelly fed baby Ivy, I enjoyed a warm cuppa tea and we chatted some more... We talked and shot for quite some time. Talking all things motherhood in some of the most beautiful and honest conversion I've had with a client and fellow mother. I left that session feeling like I had know Kelly for years!
What a beautiful little family to have spent the morning with. Congratulations on the birth of baby Ivy and I wish you all many many years filled with fun, plenty of adventures and loads of love.
It's no secret that I love photographing newborns. The cuddles, those squishy little faces, the excited and proud new parents, it is such a beautiful beautiful time. The only thing that could make these sessions any more special is when that brand new baby boy is the son of one of the girls I went to Kindy and school with! How precious these moments are in a new parents life. I always feel so honoured when I'm asked to be a small part of it. Baby Campbell was just 14 days when I made the drive down to Meningie to visit Tash and Scott's little bundle of cuteness. He sure was one content little bub for the shoot too!
Congratulations Tash and Scott on your beautiful baby boy.
Welcome to the world Campbell.
With the change in weather comes a different season for my work too. I move from shooting sunny weddings to indoors photographing newborn babies in the cosy warmth of their own homes. I love everything I do, but cuddling newborn babies would have to be at the very tippy top of my fav shoots. Especially when they're as cute as this little man was! Welcome the beautiful 9 day old, baby Spencer.
I photograph a lot of babies and meet lots of first time parents, and I have to say that Danielle and Scott were just so calm and relaxed. Their calming nature made for one very happy and content little bubs for our shoot over the weekend.
Congratulations guys and welcome to the world baby boy, you're certainly in safe hands. x
"Sometimes you will not know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory"
Capturing moments and collecting memories, this is my job and this is what I do. But every so often, I am given the chance to witness and be a part of something that is so truly beautiful it brings tear to my eyes. Yes, I can be a bit of an emotional wreck, often shooting a wedding through watery eyes of crazy happiness, but this particular shoot just turned me into a complete blubbering mess (though I think I did manage to compose myself and still remain a little professional on the job). I guess you're probably wondering what happened. Well let me fill you in...
The shoot started just like many others. I arrived at the house of a couple who were recently blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Thomas Logan, just 9 days new. He was as cute as pumpkin pie, with cheeks that I could have just squished for days! (again, I managed remained professional and did not squish the poor kids cheeks). I could instantly see the joy and excitement in the faces of these new parents as they showed off their brand new little creation. The shoot was going smoothly and was looking like a total breeze. Thomas was one content little bub, dealing very well with all this disruption to his otherwise carefree life. Mum, Alecia, was relaxed and Dad, Ayrton, was happy watching on as his son dominated his first ever photo shoot. We were nearing the end of the shoot, Thomas still being a little champion, when Dad mentioned that he had one last outfit that he really wanted to see him in before we finished up. As Mum and I sat chatting, Dad took Thomas and got him dressed into his last change of clothes. I was curious to see what the final outfit would be for the little man, but never could I have imagined what Dad had install for us... He came back into the room, looking very cool, calm and collected and popped Thomas back into Mums arms, insisting that she was much better at calming Thomas before each of his shots. Alecia took Thomas, who was still wrapped in his blanket at this stage, and popped him down. As she unwrapped him, she revealed what had been Dads master plan all along. "Will you marry my Daddy?" read a tiny little onesie that baby Thomas was now wearing. Mum instantly turned and embraced her new fiancé, now celebrating not just the birth of their first baby, but a beautiful engagement too!
So, together, Daddy and son gave Mum one amazing surprise that I am sure will become one of her most cherished memories for the rest of her life.
I am so thrilled and completely honoured that I was there to capture and witness this moment and now memory, in this wonderful couples' life. I'd like to wish Alecia, Ayrton and Thomas all the happiness in the world.
On the 13th of August myself and my family welcomed into the world our second beautiful daughter, Pippen Taylor. A little sister for Sovereign Grace. After a few restless nights and settling in I finally found some time to photograph Pippen at 1 week old. Welcome to the world baby girl.
Welcome all. Here you can keep up to date with all my latest shoots, events and general chit chats... Enjoy.
