Three months ago, Belinda and Bruce welcomed into the world their new baby girl, Zoe. I jumped in the car and headed on up to the beautiful Adelaide Hills for a morning photo shoot out in the gorgeous bushland of Cleland National Park. It was a little chilly but all were well rugged up and ready for adventures. The bushland was just beautiful. The tall moss covered trees, the way the sunlight found its was through the tops of the branches, everything, just beautiful. And even when Zoe decided it was time for a feed, Belinda didn't hesitate to comfort her baby whilst still amongst the gorgeous surrounds.
We enjoyed the crisp morning air for a little longer before heading back to Belinda and Bruce's home where we enjoyed a nice cuppa tea to warm ourselves up before snapping a few more captures of this humble little family.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason, this shoot just seemed a little extra special... Perhaps it was the beautiful location, or maybe it was the complete and utter happiness and fulfilment that just emanated from this one little family. My presence during the shoot didn't even seem to have an impact on how this family naturally interacted with each other. Those genuine exchanges of love between husband and wife and the soothing song and humming from a Daddy to his new baby daughter, created a calming vibe that will be hard to forget.
Again, thank you Belinda and Bruce for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to capture this precious time your lives.
How lucky must this Mum be to have such beautiful daughters as Joh and Eliza. Joh contacted me a few weeks ago explaining that she wanted to purchase a voucher for her Mum's birthday. I thought this was the most thoughtful gift a daughter could give to her mother. The idea that she loves and appreciates her Mum so much that she wanted to make images of her mother at this particular stage in her life permanent just seemed so beautiful to me.
So often I photograph young families, and while I think it's great to capture these early stages in a new families life, I think it is equally as important to capture a family through ALL stages in their lives. And for this family, it was about marking a milestone in their Mum's life, a birthday. How beautiful and thoughtful is that!
And what better place to photograph this than at a location that has just as many family ties and memories with the family as they do with each other! I met Joh's family at their home in Milang, where they have lived since their youngest daughter was just 2 years old. I then followed them down to the local boat ramp and Jetty where we began our shoot. The partners and Joh's Dad soon met with us and we went for a little wander along the shore of the lake where they took me to their old family shack. Nestled amongst the other shacks of Milang and full of character, I could see why Kirk and Ros had chosen to make Milang their home for so many years.
To Joh and Eliza, your love for your Mum is so beautiful and I loved capturing every moment!
With the change in weather comes a different season for my work too. I move from shooting sunny weddings to indoors photographing newborn babies in the cosy warmth of their own homes. I love everything I do, but cuddling newborn babies would have to be at the very tippy top of my fav shoots. Especially when they're as cute as this little man was! Welcome the beautiful 9 day old, baby Spencer.
I photograph a lot of babies and meet lots of first time parents, and I have to say that Danielle and Scott were just so calm and relaxed. Their calming nature made for one very happy and content little bubs for our shoot over the weekend.
Congratulations guys and welcome to the world baby boy, you're certainly in safe hands. x
I get a wee bit excited when I'm asked back to photograph a family multiple times. And this is certainly the case for many of the families I photograph from my home town in Meningie, S.A. I love seeing how the children have grown, many from babies and seeing their personalities develop as they grow into these beautiful little people.
Sunday arvo I made a quick trip down to Meningie to photograph a family during the evening light. We'd picked to a location where the children could adventure, play and explore. Although it was a touch windy, we managed to find a few spots that were a little more sheltered for the girls.
I'll be completely honest, its rare that I have a family shoot where everyone is absolutely and completely perfectly behaved and the kiddies are 100% willing to have their photograph taken, and this shoot was no exception. But honestly, if everyone were to be that well behaved, there would be no personality, no emotion, no character! What I'm saying is, fear not if you little one is a tad camera shy, a little precious or whatever mood they decide to throw at us on the day! This is children! They're unpredictable and most importantly, they're honest! But that is what I love about them. And these girls, in my opinion, behaved exactly how I would want children to during a shoot... honestly... They laughed, they ran around, there were a couple tears, but most importantly, there was honest emotion from this absolutely gorgeous little family!
I love nothing more than when children are not afraid to show their personality and emotion, no matter what it is!
What a beautiful family full of so much love and joy.
Over the weekend I packed my gear (camera, kids and food) and headed on down to Coonalpyn, South Australia. Just 45 minutes from my home town of Meningie. Organised by local Mum Terecia, the day was a fundraising event for the local Kindergarten. Though the weather wasn't on our side, twelve beautiful families braved the winds to come outdoors for their family photo shoot at the Kindy and Primary School grounds.
I had such a blast with all the gorgeous, crazy and energetic kiddies on the day. They well and truly had me on my toes. Climbing playground equipment, playing hide and seek in the pine trees and from what my legs are telling me today, performing 100+ squats. I truly love my job. Fun, exercise, and plenty of smiles!
Thank you again to Terecia for organising such a wonderful event and including me in it!
Welcome all. Here you can keep up to date with all my latest shoots, events and general chit chats... Enjoy.
