I couldn't be more excited to share this blog with you all. I mean, I always love to share the magic of wedding days, but there's something extra special when it's the wedding of your best friend! And what an incredible day it was. I'm going to let the images do the talking this time. Enjoy!
Heading back to my home town to photograph people is always a bit special. But when it's for a wedding with folks I went to school with, thats really the icing on the cake (pun intended).
On a very rainy Saturday afternoon, I drove down to Meningie to photograph the wedding of Jackie and Keeley. As got closer to Meningie, an enormous gay rainbow shone bright in the sky, completely uninterrupted. I like to think that that was a little sign from the universe, giving its blessings on this wonderful day. I'm completely sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the refraction and dispersion of the sun's light by rain in the atmosphere. Completely sure.
Anywho... rainbows aside... As I was driving from Adelaide to Meningie, local photographer Kirsty Ridley was busy capturing Jackie and Keeley getting ready for their big day. With family by their side, they sat for their hair and makeup and got into their dresses.
I arrived at the ceremony location which was held at the Cheese Factory Restaurant and stunningly styled and decorated by Jackie's loving sisters. Guests arrived and waited eagerly for the arrival of the brides. Keeley was the first to arrive and was walked down the isle by her Dad. Jackie arrived shortly after and was also accompanied by her father. The ceremony was short and simple but completely full of love. Followed by the signing and loads of hugs, kisses and congratulation from their friends and family.
The rain had subsided and we took the opportunity to head out and grab a few shots. We drove out to our location and got snapping. The weather appeared to be on our side... for the time being... We were planning on doing some shots in the shearing shed and that decision was made for us when the rain came in. The light inside the shed was divine and I was in no hurry to head out again should the rain have continued. Thankfully, we got a little break in the rain to go out and grab a few last snaps before heading back to the reception for drinks and dinner.
Jackie and Keeley were introduced as Mrs & Mrs Gibbs before the cutting of the cake and their first dance as a married couple. The night kicked on with glorious cocktail foods, a dessert bar, live band and of course, what would a wedding be without a bit of dancing!
Congratulations Jackie & Keeley. I hope your wedding day was everything you'd hoped for + more!

Photographing my own children would have to be one of my hardest gigs. I've had to learn to let go of things like perfection, attentiveness and things like....clothing... My kids quite simply, do not like clothes. Or shoes. Not unless it sparkles, has flashing lights or resembles a rainbow. There really isn't a middle ground.
What I do love about photographing my own children, is that it has lead me to the style and approach to all my other photography as well. Being initially forced, to let go of the little things, has shown me that things like, perfection, are completely overrated. What matters most, is the moment, the feeling, whatever that might be at the time.
Today I photographed my kids doing various kid type stuff. It's easy to get a little cranky when kids do things like, splash too much in the bath, soaking the entire room, and you! Or when you find them jumping on your bed! You know, those little things...that kids do... for fun... I'm sure most of us did those things too as a kid. We probably even got told off a couple times for doing them. Or, maybe we got away with them and Mum and Dad never found out about that broken bed slat from slightly too energetic bed trampolining... Oopsy. But they really are such defining kid type moments, aren't they?. Splashing, jumping, laughing...
So today, I gave them a break and just captured all these seemingly small moments. I guess that's the thing isn't it... These moments aren't small to them, it's how they fill their day, it's how they learn, play and how they have fun! I don't want to be the one to take that away from them.
Maybe next time you're thinking of booking in a shoot, especially when the weather is bad, having a warm bath, jumping on their parents bed, playing chasey inside, baking a cake (and YES, letting the kids mix the ingredients AND lick the bowl) or raiding Mum's makeup, might just be the ticket for the most unforgettable family photos. I doubt you'll be met with too much resistance in a shoot like that!
Let the little rascals loose, I say!
When a close friend from school days asks you to photograph her maternity shoot and baby shower, the answer is ALWAYS a big "Yes please!!".
There is something so special about being a part of these big moments in someone's life, and I'm so grateful people continue to think of, and ask me to be the one to capture them.
Carly, I know you will be a truly amazing Mum. I also know that you are surrounded by so many loving and caring people that will be there to lend a hand and if they really love you, change a few nappies ;) And I know this because I saw this at you baby shower. Your most loved women in your life came together to show their love for you and your baby. You're truly in safe hands. What a wonderful community of women you have to bring this baby into.
Carly and Matt, you are going to be such wonderful parents and I can't wait to meet baby Lightfoot!
I grew up in Meningie, South Australia. So when I'm asked to photograph a wedding back in my home town, of course I jump at it! Country weddings will always feel like home to me. The open space, the people, everything feels welcome. Jack and Ashlee, your wedding was simply divine!
If there is anything I love more than a warm summers evening, its a cute as pie new family! With the nights longer and warmer and the light doing all the right things, it really does make for the perfect recipe for gorgeous family sessions. Throw in an adorable family with a cheeky baby girl, and Voila! Perfection!
Welcome all. Here you can keep up to date with all my latest shoots, events and general chit chats... Enjoy.
